Canada-based mobile operator SaskTel has started deploying Samsung Canada’s cloud-native 4G and 5G core on its network, advancing wireless connectivity across the province of Saskatchewan.
The implementation of Samsung’s core, combined with the deployment of SaskTel’s 3800 MHz and 3500 MHz wireless spectrum, will deliver improved speeds across the network.
As part of SaskTel’s ongoing 5G expansion, which now covers nearly 90 per cent of the provincial population, Samsung’s core also enables low latency to deliver improved 4G and 5G user experience across voice, data and text services.
The performance gains will be augmented following SaskTel’s deployment of Samsung’s standalone 5G platform in the next phase of the operator’s network modernisation initiative.
SaskTel president and CEO Charlene Gavel stated the deployment with Samsung “lays the foundation for a future where connectivity empowers people, organisations and communities to reach their full potential” for use cases across AI, smart agriculture, immersive gaming, IoT and virtual healthcare.
Since its 5G network launched in 2021, SaskTel has teamed with Samsung to deploy an end-to-end service.
