Channel 4 is expanding its digital news slate with two weekly podcasts aimed at younger audiences: Untangled, fronted by Stacey Dooley and Ben Zand, and A News Thing, hosted by comedians from A Comedy Thing by Channel 4 and anchored by Michael Odewale with regulars Finlay Christie and Dan Tiernan.
Commissioned off the back of Channel 4’s Gen Z: Trends, Truth and Trust study, both shows promise duly impartial, fact-checked round-ups tailored for social-first consumption. Episodes will be available as vodcasts on YouTube as well as on Spotify, blending current-affairs analysis with a lighter, conversational tone.
Untangled will unpack the most-shared stories in users’ feeds, aiming to add context over “spin”, while A News Thing offers a comedic take on the week’s headlines across media and online. Channel 4 says the dual launch is designed to counter misinformation and reach audiences who show lower trust in traditional news brands.
The projects were commissioned by digital commissioner Charlie Hyland with Sacha Khari and Louisa Compton. A News Thing is produced by Strongwatch Studios; Untangled is produced by Zandland.
