Andorra Telecom is carrying out an improvement process to double the browsing speed of the Professional Internet intended for companies.
Business customers who previously had 1 Gbps will automatically be upgraded to 2.5 Gbps without any increase in the price of the service. Currently, more than half of the companies that had 1 Gbps already have the new speed, and the rest will be migrated in the coming weeks. The operator will contact each of the customers to inform them of the change and the expected schedule.
According to Andorra Telecom, the new 2.5 Gbps speed allows companies to work more quickly and securely, especially in environments that require high performance, such as video conferencing, cloud backups, transfer of large volumes of information or simultaneous connections of many devices.
This improvement is possible thanks to the modernization of the fiber optic infrastructure that was carried out throughout 2024. Last year, Andorra Telecom invested nearly 1.6 million euros in the replacement of equipment and in the implementation of the new 10 Gpon system, which multiplies the capacity of the network and opens the door to offering much higher speeds.
In total, 47 night interventions were carried out, replacing 169 cards in 19 fiber equipment in all parishes. This effort allowed the deployment of the new XGSPON ONTs (fiber boxes) that are already in operation in companies and that will gradually reach private customers as well.
Andorra Telecom is also working to increase the speeds of its Internet service for private customers in the coming months. Private customers will be able to enjoy these improvements as long as they have the new router and once the interventions in the fiber network that the operator is carrying out throughout the country have been completed.
These interventions are carried out in the early morning to minimize the impact on service and are previously announced to each customer as work is carried out in their area.
