EE aims for 99% 5G SA coverage across UK by 2030

From the buzz of Cheltenham Festival to the thrill of SailGP and the final Oasis gigs at Wembley last weekend, 2025 demonstrates that EE’s network continues to underpin the UK’s iconic moments. With the value people place on staying connected, EE’s vision as the UK’s best network matters more than ever.

The operator has announced its ambition to deliver 5G standalone to 99% of the UK population by the end of FY30 – four years ahead of any other UK mobile operator’s projections. EE’s network is built to provide up to 100 times more capacity than 4G, ensuring reliable connectivity even in busy areas.

To achieve this, EE is deploying the latest technologies. It is the first European mobile network to roll out the Ericsson AIR 3284 Massive MIMO units, with two already live in Leeds and hundreds more planned. Over 1,500 outdoor small cells now boost coverage nationwide, including new deployments in Belfast, Bristol, Oxford, Middlesbrough, Preston, and Bolton. EE also became the first operator globally to launch Advanced RAN Coordination, allowing nearby mobile sites to share capacity, significantly enhancing performance. To make this technology accessible, EE is calling it 5G+.

EE emphasizes that government support will be critical to achieve nationwide coverage, including planning reforms, increased spectrum availability, and removing annual licence fees. While 99% coverage is a major milestone, targeted interventions will still be needed to address specific gaps, such as connectivity along railways. At BT, EE aims to lead as the UK’s most trusted mobile connector, expanding 5G+, deploying smarter technologies, and building the foundations for a more connected, prosperous nation.
