As the first in Norway, residents and businesses at Fornebu can now have food delivered by a self-driving robot from Foodora. A unique pilot project will test the future solution for “last mile” deliveries, marking a historic step toward smarter and more sustainable cities. The robot is connected to Telia’s 5G network.
This week, Foodora, together with Telia, Holo, SmartCity Bærum, Norconsult, OBOS, and Storebrand, launched a pilot for commercial operation of robot deliveries at Fornebu. The pilot is the first of its kind in Norway. The main goal of the project is to test whether autonomous delivery robots are a viable, safe, and efficient solution for direct-to-customer deliveries in urban areas. The robots will pick up Foodora orders and navigate autonomously to the customer’s doorstep.
The robots will pick up orders from three restaurants in the area: Joe and The Juice, Maya’s, and Sabi Sushi, with a delivery range of up to five kilometers. Customers can easily order via the Foodora app and track their delivery in real time. All operations are continuously monitored by operators to ensure safe and efficient deliveries within 30 minutes.
The project uses the Cartken Model C, a modern delivery robot designed to operate seamlessly in urban environments. The Cartken Model C weighs only 34 kilograms empty but can carry up to 14 kilograms of cargo. With a battery of over 1000 Wh, the robot has more than 13 hours of operational time on a single charge and travels at speeds between 5 and 10 km/h. It is designed for both indoor and outdoor use, can overcome obstacles up to 20 cm high, and has an insulated, food-safe cargo compartment to ensure safe and temperature-stable delivery.
Telia is the first in Norway with a nationwide 5G network. Nearly 99 percent of the population has access to 5G from Telia.

Food delivered to your door by a robot may sound like science fiction, but at Fornebu it is now part of everyday life. It’s incredibly exciting to test this as the first in Norway. This project shows what we can achieve when different stakeholders come together with a common goal. It’s not just about food delivery—it’s about exploring new solutions for the cities of the future.
Lena Lundgreen, Head of Enterprise Market at Telia Norway
This is a close innovation collaboration that demonstrates the importance of modern and fast 5G networks for deploying robots that operate independently. The communication ensures that orders reach the robot, that it can drive autonomously, and that it can be safely monitored while doing so. We are very excited to be part of this collaboration, which paves the way for operational robots that will make our daily lives easier.
