Amazon’s Project Kuiper targets global satellite internet rollout

Amazon’s Project Kuiper is preparing to beam satellite internet to millions, with its first launches targeting the US and Europe as early as late 2025 and plans to expand to 100 countries by 2028.

Amazon is diving into the satellite broadband race with Project Kuiper, taking on heavyweight rivals like SpaceX’s Starlink. The company plans to deploy more than 200 satellites in low-Earth orbit by the end of 2025, aiming to provide commercial internet service in the US, Canada, France, Germany, and the UK in early 2026. Kuiper’s roadmap could see coverage roll out to 26 countries within two years and reach as many as 100 by 2028. The implications are big: delivering fast, reliable internet to underserved areas could seriously expand the satellite broadband market, which analysts estimate could top $20 billion globally by the end of the decade.

Amazon’s challenge to SpaceX is turning heads across the investing world. Owning a slice of the satellite internet market could help Amazon diversify beyond e-commerce and cloud computing, offering fresh sources of long-term growth. With billions already committed and the battle heating up, investors are eyeing regulatory advances and rollout speed to see which firm gains the upper hand. These moves could set the tone for tech sector growth into the next decade.

Affordable satellite internet could bring the world online in ways never seen before, especially in rural and remote communities. Closing the digital divide means more people get access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, helping to drive global development and reshape how businesses and governments connect with citizens everywhere.
