Warner Bros. Discovery Chief Financial Officer Gunnar Wiedenfels has said a dedicated TNT Sports app is in preparation ahead of the next year’s planned company split.
The German, who is in line to become CEO of the new company that will include channel businesses CNN, TNT and Discovery.
“We’re working on creating our own TNT Sports app, which is going to be available as a streaming product,” Wiedenfels told an investor call. “But importantly, also as a bundle option, internally with discovery+, or not-so internally anymore with HBO Max, but we are also open to other partners in the industry.”
There are also plans for a relaunch of Discovery+ and an expansion of CNN’s digital portfolio.
Next year, Warner Bros Discovery will split into two publicly traded companies; Streaming & Studios and Global Networks.
Streaming & Studios will consist of Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO, and HBO Max, as well as their legendary film and television libraries. Global Networks will include CNN, TNT Sports in the United States and Discovery, free-to-air channels across Europe, and digital products such as Discovery+ streaming service and Bleacher Report.
Separately, HBO Max is also slated to launch in the UK next year, after the expiry of the output deal with Sky.
TNT Sports was added to Discovery+ at launch after evolving from BT Sport in July 2023.
