Morocco is transforming its tourism sector by integrating its rich cultural heritage with the booming world of digital gaming, fueling a remarkable surge in international arrivals and revenues. In the first half of 2025, the country saw a 19% increase in tourists, with tourism revenues reaching DH54 billion ($5.6 billion), nearly 10% higher than the previous year.
Central to this success are thematic incubators—innovation hubs supporting startups in digital services and leisure gaming. These incubators mentor entrepreneurs creating immersive gaming experiences inspired by Morocco’s historic towns and local legends, such as virtual journeys and augmented reality games. This fusion encourages tourists to stay longer, spend more, and engage deeply with Moroccan culture.
Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor emphasized the nation’s dedication to boosting leisure tourism, stating, “This momentum reinforces our ambition to position Morocco as a high value-added tourist destination. We are focusing on investments in leisure tourism to increase spending, extend stays, and promote repeat visits.”
The vision was showcased at Morocco Gaming Expo 2025 in Rabat, featuring esports tournaments, virtual reality zones, and discussions linking global tech leaders with local talent.
By merging gaming and heritage, Morocco appeals to a diverse audience—from culture seekers and digital nomads to competitive gamers—making it one of the most dynamic travel destinations this decade. This innovative approach is rapidly evolving beyond tourism strategy into a vital economic driver.
