Indonesian mobile operator Telkomsel says it has expanded its 5G coverage in the Greater Bandung area of West Java, with 72 active 5G base stations now in operation in the area.
In a statement, Telkomsel said its 5G network now covers Bandung City, Bandung Regency, Cimahi and Kertajati International Airport.
The operator said it has deployed 5G sites to provide continuous strategic coverage in in almost all areas of Bandung City and surrounding areas, including shopping and entertainment centres, government areas and public spaces such as Gedung Sate, Bandung Square, and Al-Jabbar Mosque, educational areas such as Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Padjadjaran University (UNPAD), and Telkom University, key transportation points such Indonesia–China High Speed Train Station (KCIC) and Kertajati International Airport, and major sports destinations such as Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium (GBLA).
Telkomsel also said that 5G device penetration in Greater Bandung has reached 23% of total mobile devices, with an average daily internet consumption level of 202 GB per user per month.
Telkomsel added that speed tests of its network in Greater Bandung have yielded results of maximum download speeds of 730 Mbps, and maximum upload speeds of 161 Mbps, with lower latency and 4x higher throughput compared to 4G.
“The expansion of Telkomsel's Hyper 5G network in Greater Bandung is part of Telkomsel's commitment in building equitable and quality digital connectivity throughout Indonesia,” said Telkomsel network director Indra Mardiatna.
The expansion in Greater Bandung follows Telkomsel’s 5G coverage expansion in other big cities during this year, including Jabodetabek, Surabaya, Makassar and Batam.
