TECO enters hyperscale data centre sector in Malaysia

TECO Electric & Machinery, a Taiwan-headquartered business group, has announced that it has secured some significant data centre projects in Malaysia, marking its entry into the hyperscale data centre sector.

One is in Selangor, a state on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The other is in Johor Bahru, a city at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. With a combined capacity of 178 MW, these two contracts have a total value exceeding MYR170 million (approximately US$40 million).

The company describes these deals as “a major milestone” following its March acquisition of Malaysian mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering company NCL Energy, adding that, as Malaysia rapidly becomes a key data centre hub in Southeast Asia, these contract awards support TECO in broadening its footprint in the data centre infrastructure market.

In Selangor, the TECO team will undertake a project in the Elmina Business Park which includes server room installations and the deployment of hyperscale fibre optic communication infrastructure. In Johor Bahru, the Sedenak Tech Park project will similarly focus on fibre optic solutions for hyperscale data centres.

As major global tech giants accelerate the deployment of hyperscale data centres in Southeast Asia, TECO says it will continue to pursue opportunities for its full product portfolio to enter this market, further expanding its data centre business footprint.

In addition to its progress in Malaysia, TECO’s Intelligence Energy Business Group says it is currently executing a data centre MEP project in Singapore, which includes the installation of the world’s first 13,864-core hyperscale fibre optic cable.

Founded in 1956 for motor production, TECO Electric & Machinery has evolved into a major business group, spanning heavy electric equipment, green energy electromechanical engineering, home appliances, information technology, communications, key electronic components, and various other diverse fields, with its business scope covering over 40 countries across five major continents

Beyond its extensive engineering experience, TECO also manufactures and supplies core MEP products essential for data centre construction, including modular solutions such as high-efficiency motors, busways, generators, transformers, and switchboards. Its total installed capacity for data centre projects across Taiwan and Southeast Asia exceeds 700MW.
