Sri Lanka has become the latest Asian country to launch Starlink satellite internet services, joining Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Mongolia, and Indonesia. Coverage is now live across the island, offering monthly plans for both residential users and businesses. The rollout, officially launched by Elon Musk’s SpaceX venture, aims to bridge Sri Lanka’s digital divide by improving high-speed internet access, particularly in remote areas.
The launch follows regulatory approval in August 2024, when Sri Lanka amended telecommunications laws to allow satellite internet operators. Elon Musk confirmed the availability of Starlink in Sri Lanka through a post on X.
