ice has announced that customers who still use older mobile phones and equipment that only support the 2G network will not be able to make calls, send SMS or use other services from Tuesday, May 27. ice now encourages all customers to check that they have updated equipment. Since December 2024, ice has informed affected customers that the 2G network is being phased out and that equipment that relies on the 2G network will soon stop working.
If a user's phone does not support 4G voice or 5G, it will need to be replaced. Customers with ice subscriptions from 6GB and up can get 4G phones from 1 krone in ice's online store. If they have equipment that uses 2G, such as ring-hytta-varm or a barrier to a restricted area, they must contact the supplier from whom they purchased the equipment. Most suppliers are prepared for the 2G network to be switched off and offer alternative solutions. When the new equipment is in place, users can simply use the same SIM card from ice – it will work just as before.

Many people have already replaced their phones and devices after we started sending out alerts. But we still see that some customers, especially those with older mobile phones, have not taken action. Now we want to warn once again: These devices will not have coverage from May 27. Some children use legacy phones that are often older models, and thus do not support 4G voice. This may be especially true for children with their first mobile phone. Parents should therefore check that their children's phones support 4G voice
