Dialog Axiata launches location tracker for school van operators

Sri Lankan telco Dialog Axiata has launched a location-tracking service for school vans, which it says will not only improve student safety, but also make school transportation more efficient.

Revealed on Thursday, the Dialog Suraksha School Van Location Tracker – developed by The Connection Workshop, a subsidiary of South Asian Technologies – is being marketed to school van owners under Dialog’s Suraksha parental control service.

The tracker solution leverages GPS and Dialog’s 4G network to provide parents and guardians with real-time monitoring, notifications, and shared access features.

The solution enables up to two family members to track the school van’s location in real time via Dialog’s TeDi Fleet app. It also sends SMS alerts keep parents informed about key events, such as the van’s arrival at or departure from designated locations like home or school.

Dialog also said the solution benefits school van owners by enabling them to provide a more accountable and reliable service, build stronger trust with parents and streamline their daily operations.

To use the service, school van operators will have to buy and install the device in each vehicle. While Dialog said the device is plug-and-play and easy to install, school van operators will have to pay LKR18,990 (a little over US$63) per device, plus an annual subscription of LKR1,910 plus tax.

Dialog added that the tracker solution has been approved by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL).

Dialog and The Connection Workshop launched a smart tracking solution for vehicle and fleet monitoring in July 2024.
