Sky News expands Arc XP deal for video-led app and website

Sky News has expanded its partnership with Arc XP to develop a new app and website, targeting launch by the end of 2027.

The platforms will put video and personalisation at the centre of the audience experience, supporting the broadcaster’s Sky News 2030 strategy to become a premium, video-first news organisation.

Arc XP, the media technology platform developed within The Washington Post, will work with Sky’s product and technology teams to provide AWS-backed infrastructure and tools for mobile apps, video and personalised content discovery.

The investment is intended to strengthen direct relationships with audiences, increase engagement and create commercial opportunities, including premium and paid-for products. Sky has not announced pricing or detailed plans for those products.

Sky News said video views within its app had more than doubled year on year. The redesigned services will showcase more original reporting and give users personalised ways to discover and follow stories.

“Today’s partnership will give audiences even more reasons to come directly to Sky News for a best-in-class, video-first experience,” said David Rhodes, Sky News Executive Chairman. “It’s a step change that will deliver more personalisation and better commercial outcomes—and deliver them by the end of next year.”

The expanded agreement builds on the companies’ work on Ask Sky News, an AI-powered conversational search service that answers questions using Sky’s reporting.

Matt Monahan, President of Arc XP, said the partnership would help Sky build direct audiences as more people encounter news through AI summaries and search results.

“With Sky News, we’re building a video-led, personalised app and website that brings audiences straight to Sky’s journalism, with Ask Sky News answering their questions from Sky’s own reporting,” he said.

Sky News said it had generated nearly 4.5 billion social video views during 2026 to date. It also cited Ipsos data for September identifying its app as the UK’s largest commercial news publisher app.
