Grameenphone returns to revenue growth in Q3 2026 as subscribers and data usage increase

Bangladesh's leading mobile operator Grameenphone has returned to year-on-year revenue growth in the third quarter of 2026, reporting BDT 42 billion in revenue as rising subscriber numbers and mobile data consumption helped reverse several consecutive quarters of decline.

The operator recorded a modest 0.2% increase in revenue compared with the same period last year, while quarterly revenue improved by 0.9% from the preceding three months.

Although the recovery remains limited, the results indicate an improvement in Grameenphone's operating momentum, supported by growth in its customer base and demand for mobile data services.

Quarterly revenue reaches BDT 42 billion

Grameenphone reported revenue of BDT 42 billion for the third quarter of 2026, representing a 0.2% increase from the corresponding period in 2025.

The improvement marks a return to positive annual revenue growth following several quarters of contraction.

On a sequential basis, revenue increased by 0.9% compared with the second quarter of 2026.

The two growth figures suggest that the operator has begun stabilising its revenue performance, although the relatively small increases indicate that the recovery remains at an early stage.

The available financial update does not provide detailed figures for operating profit, net income, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), or capital expenditure.

As a result, the reported revenue improvement cannot yet be used to assess changes in overall profitability or investment capacity.

Subscriber growth supports financial recovery

An increase in subscriber numbers contributed to Grameenphone's return to revenue growth during the quarter.

Subscriber expansion can support mobile operators by increasing the number of customers generating revenue through voice, data and other telecommunications services.

For Grameenphone, the improvement in its customer base comes alongside rising demand for mobile data.

The combination of these factors helped the operator reverse its recent pattern of declining quarterly revenue on a year-on-year basis.

However, the available announcement does not disclose the total number of subscribers at the end of September, the number of net additions during the quarter or changes in customer retention.

It also does not provide average revenue per user (ARPU), which would help establish whether revenue growth is being driven primarily by a larger customer base or increased spending per subscriber.

Rising mobile data consumption strengthens demand

Higher data usage was another factor supporting Grameenphone's third-quarter performance.

Mobile data consumption is an important indicator of demand for digital connectivity, particularly as subscribers increasingly depend on smartphones for communications, entertainment, financial services and other online activities.

For mobile operators, rising data traffic can create opportunities to generate additional revenue through mobile broadband packages and related services.

However, increased consumption does not automatically translate into equivalent revenue growth.

The commercial impact depends on factors such as data pricing, package allowances, customer spending and network operating costs.

Grameenphone's 0.2% annual revenue increase, despite stronger data usage, illustrates why traffic growth and financial performance need to be evaluated separately.

The available report does not quantify the increase in data consumption or provide figures for average data usage per subscriber.

It also does not specify how much of the company's quarterly revenue came from mobile data services.

Recovery follows several quarters of declining revenue

The return to positive year-on-year revenue growth represents a change in direction for Grameenphone following several quarters of decline.

The third-quarter results suggest that subscriber additions and greater mobile data consumption are beginning to support a more stable revenue trajectory.

Nevertheless, the improvement remains modest.

Annual revenue growth of 0.2% indicates that the operator has moved slightly above its previous-year performance rather than entering a period of substantial expansion.

The 0.9% sequential increase provides an additional indication of improvement, although a single quarter is insufficient to establish a sustained recovery.

Further financial results will be needed to determine whether the positive trend continues.

Bangladesh's mobile market remains dependent on data growth

Grameenphone's performance highlights the importance of mobile data services to telecommunications operators in Bangladesh.

As consumers and businesses make greater use of digital applications, mobile networks remain an important channel for accessing online services.

This creates demand for network capacity, reliable connectivity and competitive data packages.

For operators, the challenge is to convert increasing network usage into sustainable revenue while maintaining service quality and managing infrastructure costs.

Grameenphone's latest results suggest that growing subscriber numbers and data consumption are contributing positively to its business.

However, the available financial information does not establish whether the improvement reflects changes in pricing, network efficiency, service mix or other operating factors.
