The German Lokal-TV Portal has launched mobile apps for iOS and Android, extending access to local television channels to smartphones and tablets.
The platform is also now available through standard web browsers. Developed by technical service provider Bayerische Medientechnik (bmt), with support from Bavarian media regulator BLM, the Lokal-TV Portal brings together local and regional television services from across Germany under a single brand.
The free apps are available through the Apple App Store and Google Play under the name Lokal-TV-Portal. Users can access live streams of participating channels, covering local news, politics, culture, sport and regional events. The service can also be accessed through a standard web browser at www.lokal-tv-portal.de/browser.
In addition to the new mobile applications and browser access, the platform is available via satellite using HbbTV, as well as through a range of television platforms and smart TV systems. Supported platforms include Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Magenta TV and devices from manufacturers including JVC, LG, Panasonic, Samsung, Telefunken, Toshiba and Vestel.
The expansion is intended to improve the visibility and accessibility of local television services by making regional content available across a wider range of devices and distribution channels.
The mobile extension of the Lokal-TV Portal will be presented by bmt at Medientage München, taking place from 21 to 23 October 2026 in Munich.
Founded in 1994, bmt is a subsidiary of the BLM and Bavarian public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR). Its activities include software development for apps, HbbTV and DVB-I, as well as technical services for commercial radio and television broadcasters in Bavaria.
