JazzWorld, in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), organised a cybersecurity awareness seminar to examine emerging cyber threats and discuss ways to safeguard mobile networks, digital services and critical infrastructure, a statement said on Friday.
The seminar brought together industry and government stakeholders to discuss the implications of 5G deployment, embedded SIMs (e-SIMs) and artificial intelligence (AI) for network security and consumer protection, as Pakistan expands its digital infrastructure.
Syed Zaheer Mehdi, group chief corporate and regulatory affairs at JazzWorld, said cybersecurity was fundamental to building trust in Pakistan’s digital future. “As digital services become an increasingly important part of everyday life, protecting users, data and critical infrastructure require constant vigilance and collective action,” he said.
He added that the company is committed to strengthening digital security through resilient infrastructure, advanced capabilities and close collaboration with regulators and industry partners.
On next-generation networks, participants stressed security measures such as network segmentation, access controls, firewalls and secure interfaces to reduce vulnerabilities and maintain service reliability as 5G supports more sophisticated applications.
The seminar also examined risks linked to the growing use of e-SIMs, including the need for robust digital onboarding, reliable identity verification and safeguards against SIM-related fraud and social engineering.
Discussions on AI covered its dual role in cybersecurity: while it can improve threat detection and response, it can also be exploited to develop more sophisticated attacks. Participants called for combining technological safeguards with employee awareness, responsible AI use and stronger organisational readiness.
Speakers underscored the need for sustained cooperation among telecom operators, regulators and technology partners to share knowledge, strengthen security practices and respond to evolving threats.
