CelcomDigi pays RM381.75 million for additional spectrum to expand 4G network

Malaysia's largest mobile operator is deepening its spectrum holdings after agreeing to pay RM381.75 million for additional airwaves in two frequency bands.

CelcomDigi announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, CelcomDigi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, accepted a Notice of Award from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on October 15, 2026, and settled the full price component on the same day. The payment was funded through internally generated funds and existing financing facilities.

The award covers an additional 50MHz of paired spectrum. In the 2600MHz band, the company secured 2x20MHz spanning 2540MHz to 2560MHz paired with 2660MHz to 2680MHz, with a four-year assignment period. This will create a contiguous 2x40MHz holding in that band, which the operator said enables more efficient spectrum utilisation.

In the 900MHz band, CelcomDigi obtained 2x5MHz covering 880MHz to 885MHz paired with 925MHz to 930MHz, assigned for five years. The lower-frequency airwaves are expected to support wider and deeper network coverage.

The subsidiary received the notice on October 2 after being selected as the successful applicant under Lot B of MCMC's Applicant Information Package No. 1 of 2026, which was issued on August 14, 2026.

Financial Impact

The company said the proposed assignments are not expected to have any material effect on its issued share capital or substantial shareholders' shareholdings. However, the payment and annual spectrum fees will affect earnings, net assets and cash flows over the respective assignment periods.

CelcomDigi said the additional spectrum should contribute positively to long-term operational requirements while allowing the company to deploy capital expenditure more efficiently.

Conditions Pending

The Notice of Award does not constitute the issuance of the spectrum assignments. Actual assignments remain subject to conditions specified in the notice, the Applicant Information Package, and applicable regulatory requirements.

CelcomDigi said it would make a further announcement to Bursa Malaysia upon the issuance of the spectrum assignments by MCMC, where appropriate.
