With the completion of its 4G network modernisation programme in the Chattogram region, Robi Axiata PLC has announced the conclusion of its nationwide network transformation initiative.
The final phase of this large-scale network modernisation programme covered the Chattogram, Cumilla and Noakhali regions. Through this initiative, Robi has achieved its objective of establishing a stronger, more reliable and future-ready ‘Giga Green’ 4G/5G-ready network across the country, said a press release.
The announcement was made at the ‘Celebration of Robi’s 4G Network Modernisation in Chattogram’ event held on Sunday at Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View.
Under Robi’s network modernisation programme, more than 3,500 sites across the Chattogram, Cumilla and Noakhali regions were modernised within just 180 days with virtually no disruption to customers.
As per the release, the modernisation has improved customers’ 4G experience by an average of up to 20 per cent. In addition, 10 per cent more people now have access to enhanced indoor 4G coverage. The deployment of advanced MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology has strengthened signal quality and coverage, ensuring a more seamless and superior connectivity experience.
The new network infrastructure has also reduced energy consumption by up to 12 per cent, further supporting Robi’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve sustainability goals.
Speaking at the event, Chattogram-9 lawmaker Mohammad Abu Sufian said, ‘Chattogram is the country’s commercial gateway. Ensuring modern digital infrastructure in this region will play an important supporting role in trade, industrialisation and smart city management.’
Among others, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission chairman Major General (retired) Md Emdad Ul Bari, Chattogram Development Authority chairman Belayet Hossain and Robi managing director and chief executive officer Ziad Shatara were present.
Ziad Shatara said, ‘With the completion of network modernisation in the Chattogram region, we have successfully concluded our nationwide network transformation programme. This is not only a technological achievement but also an important milestone in ensuring the highest-quality digital experience for customers in Bangladesh.’
He added, ‘Following the successful modernization of more than 4,800 sites in Greater Dhaka, this achievement in the Chattogram region has taken our journey of network excellence to a new level.’
Md Emdad Ul Bari said, ‘Completing network modernisation on such a large scale within a short period is a remarkable engineering achievement. Robi’s investment in improving connectivity will further strengthen Bangladesh’s telecommunications sector.’
