Digital Parks Africa, a South African technology company, has announced plans to develop a new data centre in Lagos, Nigeria, as part of its expansion into West Africa.
The planned facility, known as Nigeria Data Centre 1 (NDC1), is being developed in partnership with Master Power Technologies Group. It is expected to provide digital infrastructure for businesses, financial institutions, banks, cloud providers and connectivity companies.
The announcement was reported in Nigeria on Monday, September 21, 2026. The project itself was announced earlier in September during the ITW Africa event in Kenya.
Digital Parks Africa said the facility will be a carrier-neutral data centre. In simple terms, this means customers and network providers will have more flexibility in choosing how they connect to the facility.
Data centres are important because they store and process large amounts of digital information. Many of the online services people use every day, including banking, cloud services, websites and business applications, depend on data-centre infrastructure.
The company said the new Lagos facility will help provide digital services closer to businesses and other organisations that need reliable technology infrastructure.
Digital Parks Africa has not yet announced the exact cost of the project, its planned capacity or the date when the facility will be completed. It has also not announced the exact location of the facility within Lagos.
The company also said it has engaged the Uptime Institute to assess the completed facility for possible Tier IV certification. However, this certification has not yet been awarded. The facility will have to be built and assessed before such certification can be confirmed.
The project comes at a time when demand for digital services and data infrastructure is growing in Nigeria. More businesses are using cloud computing, online payments and other digital platforms, increasing the need for reliable facilities to store and process data.
The planned data centre is therefore expected to form part of the growing data-centre industry in Lagos and Nigeria.
The Lagos project shows the increasing interest in Nigeria’s technology infrastructure and the growing importance of data centres to the country’s digital economy.
