Elisa Estonia has expanded its 5G network across Ida-Viru County by upgrading 22 base stations between June and August, while completing a separate network development programme that has brought 5G to all of its base stations on Hiiumaa Island.
The latest deployments extend Elisa's next-generation mobile coverage across communities in eastern Estonia and strengthen 5G availability on Hiiumaa.
22 base stations upgraded in Ida-Viru
Elisa implemented 5G technology at 22 base stations across Ida-Viru County during the three-month period from June to August.
New 5G availability includes Narva, Johvi, Kohtla-Jarve, Sillamae and Narva-Joesuu, alongside other locations in the county.
The expansion represents an upgrade of existing mobile infrastructure rather than the construction of 22 entirely new base station sites.
The source does not specify the spectrum bands used for the deployment, investment involved, expected speeds or how much of Ida-Viru's population is now covered by Elisa's 5G network.
Hiiumaa network becomes fully 5G-enabled
Elisa has also completed its network development programme on Hiiumaa, with 5G now available from all of the operator's base stations on the island.
The milestone means Elisa has upgraded its entire existing base station footprint on Hiiumaa to support 5G.

Both deployments extend 5G beyond Estonia's largest urban centres and into regional and island communities.
