Telstra will upgrade the mobile base station serving Westmere from September 17, 2026, with the work aimed at increasing 4G network capacity and improving mobile data performance in the area.
The Australian operator said upgrade work at the site is expected to continue for eight days.
Once completed, the additional capacity is expected to support faster downloads, smoother streaming and reduced congestion for customers using Telstra's 4G network in Westmere.
Upgrade focuses on 4G capacity
The project is a capacity upgrade rather than the announcement of a new mobile site or 5G deployment.
Increasing capacity can help a mobile network accommodate higher levels of simultaneous traffic, particularly during periods when many customers are using the same base station.
Telstra has not disclosed the specific equipment being installed, additional spectrum being deployed or the expected increase in capacity following completion of the work.
The operator also did not provide specific coverage improvements or expected download speeds.
Eight days of work planned
Site work is scheduled to begin on September 17 and continue for eight days.
The announcement does not provide details on whether customers should expect temporary service interruptions while the upgrade is carried out.
Once operational, the upgraded infrastructure is expected to provide greater capacity for existing 4G users and reduce congestion affecting mobile data performance.
