Qatar-based data centre operator MEEZA has signed a QR1 billion long-term agreement with an unnamed global hyperscaler for 8 megawatts of operational capacity, marking the largest contract in the company’s history.
The agreement will support cloud and AI workloads for what MEEZA described as one of the world’s fastest-growing cloud service providers, while strengthening Qatar’s position as a regional digital infrastructure hub.
The hyperscaler was not identified, and MEEZA did not disclose the contract duration, pricing structure, delivery timeline or the location of the new capacity.
8MW capacity tied to long-term lease
Under the agreement, MEEZA will provide 8MW of operational data centre capacity through a long-term leasing arrangement.
The deal represents the company’s largest contract to date and reflects rising demand for infrastructure capable of supporting cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other data-intensive workloads.
MEEZA said the new data centre campus will provide the hyperscaler with scalable, secure and resilient infrastructure designed to support expanding cloud and AI requirements.
The company did not disclose whether the 8MW will be delivered in a single phase or across multiple stages.
Hyperscaler demand supports expansion strategy
MEEZA CEO Mohammed Ali al-Ghaithani said the agreement demonstrates growing demand for the company’s data centre infrastructure and confidence from global technology providers.
“As outlined in our previously released statements, we are on track to quadruple our current data centre capacity,” he said.
The planned expansion is intended to support Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Qatar Digital Agenda 2030, while allowing MEEZA to address rising demand for AI and cloud infrastructure.
The company did not provide updated figures for its existing operational capacity or specify how much of its future expansion pipeline is already committed.
Qatar targets larger role in regional data infrastructure
The agreement also fits into Qatar’s broader effort to attract global technology investment and expand domestic digital infrastructure.
Demand for hyperscale capacity is increasingly being driven by cloud migration, AI model development, inference workloads and data-intensive enterprise applications.
Securing a large anchor tenant can help data centre operators justify further capacity expansion while giving hyperscalers access to local infrastructure that can support latency, resilience and data residency requirements.
For Qatar, additional hyperscaler capacity could also strengthen the wider ecosystem around cloud services, enterprise IT, AI and digital government.
MEEZA positions for AI and cloud growth
MEEZA said the new campus will be designed around high levels of reliability, efficiency and scalability.
The company has positioned data centre expansion as a core part of its growth strategy, particularly as AI workloads increase infrastructure requirements around power, cooling, compute density and network connectivity.
The QR1 billion agreement provides MEEZA with a substantial long-term customer commitment at a time when operators across the Gulf are racing to expand capacity for hyperscale and AI demand.
However, the company has not disclosed technical details such as rack density, cooling architecture, power usage effectiveness targets or whether the site will be specifically optimised for high-density AI workloads.
