Chunghwa Telecom and Askey Computer unveiled Monday a mobile 5G platform supporting construction robots at social housing sites, according to a press release.
Chunghwa Telecom’s private 5G network was combined with Askey’s mobile network platform and AI construction robots from technology company ROSO. The system was tested at the Shanming Anju and Shuixiu Anju social housing construction sites in Kaohsiung’s Siaogang District.
The pilot project aims to address labor shortages, improve workplace safety, and accelerate the construction industry’s digital transformation.
Construction sites typically rely on fixed network equipment that must be repeatedly deployed and removed as work progresses. The mobile platform can be moved according to construction needs and provide stable communications for multiple robots.
The robots perform repetitive or hazardous tasks such as grinding and spraying, reducing workers’ exposure to risks. Once work is completed, the network equipment can be quickly redeployed at another construction site.
Chunghwa Telecom said the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Industrial Development Administration subsidized the project to demonstrate the potential for private 5G networks beyond factories and industrial parks.
