Indosat launches Garuda Spark Innovation Hub in Jayapura

Papua's younger generation now has a new space to build digital skills and connect with the national technology ecosystem. Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), with support from Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat or IOH), has launched the Garuda Spark Innovation Hub (GSIH) in Jayapura at the Indosat AI Experience Center (AIEC) Jayapura.

With the theme "From Spark to Impact: Gateway for Digital Talent to the Ecosystem," GSIH connects digital talent with government, industry, academia, communities, and the national tech network. In Jayapura, the initiative is shaped around local talent's potential and needs, opening access to learning, skills development, and collaboration.

The launch formed part of a national series of events, linked live via livestream to the main event in BSD, South Tangerang. During the event, Meutya Hafid, Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, engaged with the Indosat team in Jayapura and witnessed the unveiling of the Indosat Game Center Jayapura, part of the city's GSIH ecosystem.

The link between BSD and Jayapura captures GSIH's spirit: connecting talent across regions with the wider digital ecosystem. By building capability locally while opening access to national networks, young Papuans gain the tools to go beyond using technology, developing ideas, creating solutions, and driving Indonesia's digital economy forward.

Local government support has also been key to building the ecosystem.

As part of its support, Indosat has introduced the Indosat Game Center Jayapura, a space for young people and the gaming community to gather, interact, and develop their creativity through positive digital activities. The facility complements GSIH's role as a hub for talent and community development in Papua.

The GSIH launch also expands the role of the Indosat AI Experience Center Jayapura, operating since 20 May 2025 as Indosat's second AI Experience Center in Indonesia. With GSIH and the Indosat Game Center now added, the facility is an even richer space for Papuans for learning about technology, building skills, and connecting with community and opportunities across the digital ecosystem.

Through collaboration with Komdigi, local government, communities, and other stakeholders, Indosat continues to expand access to technology and digital talent development across Indonesia. In Jayapura, this effort is part of a national movement to connect talent from Eastern Indonesia with the opportunities and growth of Indonesia's digital ecosystem.

Jayapura has an important role to play in developing digital talent in Papua. With its young people, academics, and communities showing growing potential, Garuda Spark Innovation Hub will connect more local talent with mentorship, industry, and national-level opportunities. We appreciate Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison's support in bringing this collaboration to life.

Dr. Abisai Rollo, S.H., M.H., Mayor of Jayapura

We welcome Garuda Spark Innovation Hub in Jayapura as a space that opens up more opportunities for young Papuans to learn, innovate, and connect with the growth of the national digital economy. Collaboration between government, education, industry, and communities like this matters, so local talent can not only use technology, but create new solutions and opportunities from Papua.

Reski Damayanti, Director and Chief Legal & Regulatory Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison

For Indosat, technology can create greater impact when more people have the opportunity to learn about it and use it productively. Through our support for the Garuda Spark Innovation Hub and the presence of the Indosat Game Center in Jayapura, we are committed to advancing inclusive digital access, in line with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs’ vision of connectivity that is Connected, Growing, and Protected. This commitment is aligned with Indosat’s vision to ensure that Indonesian talent, including young people in Papua, can compete on the global stage. It is also a tangible expression of the #LebihBaikIndosat spirit to empower Indonesia by bringing technological sovereignty and innovation closer to communities and making them increasingly relevant to their needs.
