Telecom Egypt joins FTSE Emerging Markets Index after Mid Cap upgrade

Telecom Egypt has entered the FTSE Emerging Markets Index after being upgraded from the Small Cap to Mid Cap segment of the FTSE Global Equity Index Series, following FTSE Russell’s semi-annual review for September 2026.

The company’s market capitalisation has risen to approximately $3.9 billion, taking it above the threshold required for Mid Cap classification.

Telecom Egypt said the upgrade reflects stronger liquidity, improved cash generation and disciplined capital allocation, supported by stronger financial and operational performance.

Mid Cap classification boosts Telecom Egypt’s global profile

The move from Small Cap to Mid Cap places Telecom Egypt in a higher segment of one of the world’s most widely followed equity index frameworks.

FTSE Russell classifications are based on factors including market capitalisation, liquidity, trading activity and free-float requirements.

For Telecom Egypt, the upgrade could improve visibility among international institutional investors and increase the company’s relevance to funds that track FTSE emerging-market benchmarks.

The company said its improved position reflects a strategy focused on accelerating cash generation, improving resource efficiency and directing capital towards higher-return opportunities.

Index inclusion could support institutional inflows

Telecom Egypt’s entry into the FTSE Emerging Markets Index could also support potential investment inflows from passive and benchmark-oriented funds.

Companies included in major global indices often gain greater exposure among international asset managers because index-linked funds adjust their portfolios according to constituent changes.

That does not guarantee capital inflows, but it can increase the company’s visibility and accessibility to institutional investors.

Upgrade strengthens Egypt’s presence in FTSE benchmarks

Telecom Egypt’s inclusion also strengthens the representation of the Egyptian Exchange in international capital markets.

The company credited the EGX with providing advisory and guidance services to listed companies and helping improve their positioning in global indices.

FTSE Russell’s emerging-market indices include large- and mid-cap companies and are widely used by institutional investors as benchmarks for portfolio allocation.

According to Telecom Egypt, three Egyptian companies are currently included in the FTSE Russell emerging-market index framework.

Telecom Egypt links upgrade to financial discipline

Tamer El Mahdi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Egypt, said the upgrade reflects the company’s operational strength and capital management discipline.

He said the move represents international recognition of Telecom Egypt’s progress in sustainable growth, financial discipline and long-term shareholder value creation.

El Mahdi also credited the company’s management, employees, shareholders and partners for supporting its performance and competitiveness.

Company plans to build on index upgrade

Telecom Egypt said it intends to continue its growth strategy while maintaining a focus on long-term shareholder value.

The company is positioning the FTSE upgrade as part of a broader effort to strengthen its standing in both local and international capital markets.

Further progress will depend on maintaining liquidity, market value and operational performance while meeting the index provider’s ongoing eligibility requirements.
