State-owned Telikom PNG announced that it has struck an infrastructure sharing and co-location agreement with Vodafone Papua New Guinea, which it said is the first such arrangement in the country’s telecoms sector.
The agreement enables Telikom and Vodafone to share existing and future telecoms infrastructure, with the goal of accelerating network expansion and improving connectivity across Papua New Guinea.
Telikom Group CEO Amos Tepi said the agreement demonstrates how competition and collaboration can work together to deliver better outcomes for Papua New Guineans.
"Competition is healthy for the country, and it's good for customers. At the same time, we are looking at ways to collaborate through infrastructure sharing and support the regulator's vision of transforming connectivity throughout Papua New Guinea," he said in a statement.
Vodafone PNG CEO Pradeep Lal said infrastructure sharing would help both operators expand their networks more efficiently, particularly into rural and underserved communities.
“The end benefit is that customers will get bigger network coverage, better network reliability, better service quality, and more choice,” Mr. Lal stated.
