Altyn Asyr launches 4G coverage along Mary-Turkmenabat highway section

Turkmenistan’s Altyn Asyr has launched 4G mobile coverage along the Mary-Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat high-speed highway, extending high-speed connectivity across a strategically important transport corridor.

The new network infrastructure is designed to provide motorists and passengers with mobile data, voice and video communications, navigation services and access to online resources while travelling along the route.

The launch coincided with the ceremonial opening of the final section of the highway, attended by Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

4G expands connectivity along key transport corridor

The deployment brings fourth-generation mobile services to the Mary-Turkmenabat section of the highway as Turkmenistan strengthens both transport and telecommunications infrastructure along the route.

Reliable mobile coverage can improve the passenger experience by supporting navigation, communications and internet access across long-distance journeys.

It also provides a digital layer for transport businesses operating along the corridor.

Network supports real-time logistics tools

Altyn Asyr said the upgraded connectivity could improve the efficiency of transport and logistics operations.

Consistent mobile data coverage allows carriers to use digital systems for real-time cargo monitoring and management while vehicles are in transit.

For logistics operators, improved coverage can support fleet tracking, communications and access to cloud-based operational tools across areas where connectivity may previously have been limited.

Highway forms part of international transit network

The Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway connects the capital with Turkmenistan’s eastern regions and forms part of an international transit corridor.

Authorities see the route as important for strengthening interregional transport links and facilitating movement across the country.

Adding modern telecom infrastructure alongside the road network can increase the corridor’s usefulness for digitally enabled transport and logistics services.

Connectivity could support roadside economic activity

The government also expects improved telecommunications infrastructure to support economic development along the highway.

Reliable mobile broadband can provide a foundation for roadside businesses, service stations, logistics facilities and other commercial activity requiring digital payments, communications and online services.

The development illustrates how transport infrastructure projects increasingly depend on parallel investment in digital connectivity.
