Breezeline partners with DIRECTV to expand streaming TV and sports options

US broadband provider Breezeline has partnered with DIRECTV to offer customers a broader range of streaming-focused live sports and entertainment packages, including satellite-free service, cloud DVR and a two-year price guarantee.

The agreement gives Breezeline customers access to DIRECTV Signature Packages delivered over internet connections, while customers who combine DIRECTV with Breezeline Internet can receive a $5 monthly discount on their broadband bill.

The partnership reflects the continued shift by broadband operators toward flexible streaming bundles as traditional pay-TV consumption moves further toward app-based viewing.

DIRECTV adds sports-focused streaming features

DIRECTV is positioning the service heavily around live sports.

Its offering combines live games, streaming applications, real-time scores, highlights and personalised sports discovery within one viewing environment.

The service also includes 4K streaming and DIRECTV’s Multiview feature, which allows users to watch up to four games simultaneously on a single screen.

Unlimited cloud DVR is included, while customers can access the service through a DIRECTV Gemini device or the DIRECTV app.

Satellite-free packages come with two-year price guarantee

Breezeline customers can access DIRECTV’s satellite-free Signature Packages without an annual contract.

The packages come with a two-year price guarantee, giving customers greater predictability over monthly costs.

The new Bundle & Save offer also provides a $5 monthly discount on Breezeline Internet for customers who combine the broadband service with DIRECTV.

That model allows Breezeline to strengthen its entertainment proposition without operating the full television service itself.

Broadband becomes the delivery layer for television

Bart Nickerson, chief commercial officer at Breezeline, said the company is rethinking the television experience around convenience and modern viewing technology.

He said DIRECTV services will run over Breezeline’s fibre-powered network, allowing customers to start watching by connecting a Gemini device or logging into the DIRECTV application.

The arrangement reflects a wider change in the cable and broadband market, where operators are increasingly positioning connectivity as the foundation for third-party streaming services rather than relying exclusively on conventional managed TV platforms.

DIRECTV targets simpler aggregation

Mike Wittrock, chief operations officer at DIRECTV, said customers increasingly want easier access to live sports, local channels, news and entertainment.

The partnership is designed to combine Breezeline’s broadband infrastructure with DIRECTV’s content and streaming platform.

For consumers, the proposition centres on reducing fragmentation by bringing live television and sports features into a single service while retaining the flexibility of internet-based delivery.
