Egypt expands global digital partnerships through high-level WSIS meetings

Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has strengthened its international digital cooperation agenda through a series of high-level meetings on the sidelines of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum, engaging with Sudan, the United Nations, ICANN and TikTok to advance collaboration on digital transformation, internet governance and digital inclusion.

Held during the WSIS Forum 2026 in Geneva, the discussions focused on expanding partnerships in areas including digital infrastructure, internet governance, digital skills, responsible technology adoption and cross-border cooperation. The meetings reinforce Egypt’s strategy of leveraging international partnerships to accelerate its digital economy ambitions and strengthen its position as a regional ICT hub.

The engagements also highlight Egypt’s increasingly active role in shaping global digital policy and technology collaboration.

Egypt Strengthens Regional Digital Cooperation

During bilateral discussions with Sudan, Egyptian officials explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in information and communications technology (ICT), knowledge exchange and digital capacity building.

Regional collaboration remains an important component of Egypt’s digital strategy, supporting technology transfer, skills development and the expansion of digital public services across neighboring markets.

Strengthening ICT cooperation also contributes to broader regional integration and sustainable digital development.

Global Partnerships Support Digital Transformation

Meetings with United Nations representatives focused on advancing digital development initiatives aligned with international sustainable development goals.

The discussions emphasized the role of digital technologies in improving public services, expanding digital inclusion and accelerating socioeconomic development through greater adoption of ICT.

Collaboration with international organizations enables Egypt to align national digital initiatives with global best practices while accessing wider knowledge-sharing networks.

Internet Governance and Digital Infrastructure Remain Priorities

Egypt also met with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to discuss internet governance, domain name systems and the continued development of a secure, resilient and interoperable internet ecosystem.

As internet usage, cloud computing and AI applications continue to expand, effective internet governance has become increasingly important for ensuring stability, cybersecurity and digital trust.

The discussions reinforce Egypt’s commitment to participating in international internet policy development.

Digital Platforms Expand Cooperation

The ministry’s meeting with TikTok explored opportunities for collaboration in digital innovation, skills development and the responsible use of digital platforms.

Global technology companies are increasingly partnering with governments on initiatives related to digital literacy, online safety, creator economies and digital entrepreneurship.

Such collaborations support broader national objectives around expanding digital opportunities while encouraging responsible technology adoption
