Saudi Arabia participates in the 69th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS)

Saudi Arabia, represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and the Saudi Space Agency (SSA), participated in the 69th United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) held in Vienna from 10 to 19 June 2026.

This participation reflects the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts and commitment to strengthening international collaboration and promoting the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space, while showcasing its achievements in the Space sector and its initiatives related to the Committee’s work, which will enhance the use of Space technology in telecommunications and environmental sustainability.

The session addressed several key topics, including the long-term sustainability of outer space activities, progress in implementing the “Space2030” Agenda, the future role of the Committee and its working methods, as well as reports from the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee and the Legal Subcommittee.

The Saudi delegation also highlighted the Kingdom’s contributions and its legislative and regulatory efforts in the Space sector, most notably the draft Space Law, its executive regulations, and other regulatory documents governing the Kingdom’s Space sector.

In addition, the delegation presented a proposal to improve the Committee’s working methods and improve its efficiency.

The Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1958 and is headquartered in Vienna, Austria.

to promote international collaboration in the use and activities of outer space.

The Committee was established with 24 member States and has currently grown to include more than 100 member States, making it one of the largest committees of the United Nations, while the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) serves as the Secretariat of the Committee.
