LG U+ is set to strengthen its competitiveness in Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) contents by releasing an integrated subscription product that allows users to watch terrestrial and comprehensive programming channel contents at once.
On the 21st, LG U+ announced that it will release "U+tv Broadcast Pass" on the 1st of next month, which combines paid video on demand (VOD) from four broadcasters of KBS, MBC, SBS, and JTBC.
The new product is designed to use broadcast content scattered by platforms in one service. Subscribers can watch paid VODs of four broadcasters, including dramas, entertainment, current affairs, and culture, without additional payment through the broadcast pass menu on the U+TV main screen.
LG U+ explained that it considered the demand for users who feel burdened by subscribing to multiple online video services (OTTs) at the same time as well as monthly VOD users.
The product consists of a basic type of 19,800 won per month and a premium type of 22,000 won per month based on a three-year contract and an Internet combination. Subscribers can use 222 real-time channels with broadcaster VOD. In addition, the premium type provides 257 channels, including 6 UHD channels.
Smartphone accessibility has also become more convenient. If you link it with U+TV mobile, you can watch content that you've seen on TV continuously with your smartphone. YouTube Premium and Disney+ discounts are also provided to customers who subscribe to broadcast pass.
"We expect to contribute to the growth of the Korean content industry by cooperating with broadcasters while providing a convenient broadcast content viewing environment for customers," said Oh In-ho, head of LG Uplus' media business. "We will build a TV viewing ecosystem that creates new customer experiences."
