Ribbon Communications launches Network-in-a-Box solutions for rapid deployment connectivity

Ribbon Communications, a global leader in real-time communications technology, IP routing, and optical networking solutions, announced a portfolio of solutions to address the need to rapidly deploy networking and computing capabilities in ruggedized, mobile cabinets across a wide range of critical markets.

These Network-in-a-Box (NiaB) solutions help organizations worldwide quickly restore critical communications during outages or failures and rapidly add network capabilities when time is of the essence.

Available in off-the-shelf and custom configurations, the solutions support a wide range of deployment options, from portable, suitcase-sized form factors to industrial data center designs the size of a railcar. These highly customizable, rapidly deployable solutions enable teams to quickly establish communications, maintain connectivity, and operate independently of the local site when existing networks are unavailable or lack capacity.

In essence, Ribbon Network in a Box is a highly secure communications platform that enables high-speed voice and data network services supporting multiple physical networks and access technologies. Its zero-touch deployment capabilities allow system configuration without requiring existing network connectivity, enabling continuous operation in even the most challenging environments.

Deployed under the most extreme conditions in multiple real-world scenarios with military agencies in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, NiaB has also proven its effectiveness in disaster response environments, including supporting first responders during the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Turkey in February 2023. In these scenarios, the solution enabled rapid deployment, seamless connectivity, and real-time coordination to support effective response operations.

Network in a Box offers multiple configurations designed to support different types of network operators, geographies, and terrains, including:

  • Rapid disaster recovery for communications providers and ISPs
  • Recovery of critical infrastructure in public services, oil and gas, and transportation.
  • Connectivity and first aid coordination
  • Transportable container-based data centers with fully independent power and cooling capabilities and redundant network interfaces
  • Network survival with zero-intervention implementation
  • Temporary and mobile site implementations
  • Cellular network recovery (5G in a Box)
  • Multi-access backhaul restoration
  • Together, these capabilities help organizations maintain resilient communications, protect critical infrastructure, and sustain operations when reliability matters most.
