The United States giant Amazon is studying plans to deploy low-earth orbit satellite internet services in Vietnam, said David Zapolsky, Chief Global Affairs & Legal Officer at Amazon.
The executive made the statement at a Friday meeting with Vietnamese Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan. Amazon also mull over expanding its operations and developing Vietnam into a manufacturing hub for some export products, the executive added.
In reply, Minister Vu Hai Quan appreciated Amazon’s contributions in Vietnam, including support for e-commerce export, cloud computing, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and innovation and digital transformation.
At the meeting, the minister called on Amazon to expand investment in digital infrastructure, data, and high technology in Vietnam; strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese technology companies; promote technology transfer and workforce development; and support the development of a green and sustainable technology ecosystem.
The ministry is willing to coordinate and support Amazon’s research, investment, business operations, manufacturing activities, and equipment testing in the country, Quan emphasized.
In August 2025, Amazon said it would seek to deploy Project Kuiper satellite Internet in Vietnam. In November 2025, Amazon submitted its documents related to the project to the Ministry of Science and Technology.
