Algiers has entered the global Top 50 cities for mobile internet speed after recording a significant rise in international rankings, reflecting Algeria’s accelerating investment in digital infrastructure and broadband modernization.
According to the latest report from global internet performance platform Ookla, the Algerian capital climbed to 48th position worldwide after advancing 68 places within just a few months.
The rapid improvement highlights growing momentum behind Algeria’s telecom infrastructure expansion strategy as countries across the Middle East and Africa intensify efforts to strengthen broadband performance and digital competitiveness.
Mobile Network Performance Sees Significant Improvement
The latest Ookla data showed Algiers achieving mobile download speeds of 163.31 Mbps, alongside upload speeds of 24.30 Mbps and network latency of 18 milliseconds.
Low latency and higher broadband speeds are increasingly important for supporting modern digital applications including cloud services, video streaming, AI platforms, fintech ecosystems, enterprise connectivity, and real-time communications.

The latest ranking marks a substantial improvement from September, when Algiers ranked 116th globally before rapidly advancing through successive performance gains.
The capital also recorded an additional 11-place increase during the latest monthly update.

The performance improvements were not limited to mobile connectivity.
According to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, fixed internet services in Algiers also improved significantly, with the city recording download speeds of 92.44 Mbps and upload speeds of 42.21 Mbps.
Authorities attributed the progress largely to ongoing fiber optic network expansion projects aimed at strengthening nationwide broadband infrastructure.
