Shanghai Mobile launches 5G-A super uplink at scale: 1Gbps peak upload in city core

Shanghai Mobile has switched on 5G-A Super Uplink at commercial scale, the company announced at the "Intelligent Boost, Sci-Tech Shanghai" event on May 17, promising a fundamental fix for the mobile upload bottlenecks that have long frustrated Chinese smartphone users.

Using a combination of frame structure optimization, supplementary uplink SUL, and three-carrier uplink aggregation, Shanghai Mobile has rolled out the capability across high-value zones including core urban districts, major commercial areas, transportation hubs, and landmark tourist destinations. Real-world tests show peak uplink reaching 1Gbps in core areas, with stable coverage maintaining 20Mbps throughout the city.

The Super Uplink technology essentially adds a dedicated fast lane to the mobile information highway, solving the classic pain points of slow original photo uploads, choppy video calls, and livestream dropouts that have become increasingly common as short-video and livestreaming apps dominate mobile usage.

Beyond connectivity, Shanghai Mobile is integrating the upgrade into a broader three-network convergence strategy spanning communications, computing power, and intelligence. The computing power network delivers 11.2 EFLOPS of intelligent compute capacity and has launched the domestically developed "Hu Xin He" computing substrate. The intelligence network features the MoMA model aggregation platform, connecting more than 300 mainstream AI models, reducing per-token costs by over 30%.

Shanghai Mobile also unveiled the MobileClaw intelligent agent framework with more than 150 built-in industry-specific skills, designed to accelerate AI adoption across enterprise and consumer scenarios. The company signed agreements to co-build an AI demonstration zone, targeting eight benchmark parks by year-end. For AI adoption, Shanghai Mobile introduced a universal Token service enabling one quota, one price, any model access, and partnered with Tencent to launch the AI-native WorkBuddy platform offering 400,000 tokens for 1 CNY.
