CANAL+ has announced a strategic partnership with Sharp Consumer Electronics for the European smart TV market.
Under the agreement, the CANAL+ app will be pre-installed on Sharp Smart TVs powered by TiVo in European markets where CANAL+ operates, including France, Poland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Belgium and Romania.
Sharp remote controls will also include a dedicated CANAL+ button, giving viewers direct access to the service.
The partnership is designed to improve access to CANAL+’s sports, movies and series offering and strengthen its presence on connected TVs.
Philippe Schwerer, EVP industrial partnerships and new business at CANAL+, said the agreement would make its entertainment offer more accessible to its 18.3 million European subscribers.
Witalis Korecki, CEO Sharp Europe, commented the integration would give Sharp customers easier access to CANAL+ content from the moment they turn on their TV.
Gabriel Cosgrave, SVP global sales and revenue at TiVo, said the deal supports TiVo’s content-first approach by helping viewers find premium entertainment more quickly.
