LG Uplus launches Mobile app for IPTV service

LG Uplus has launched a dedicated mobile application, “U+tv Mobile,” enabling users to access its IPTV service U+tv on smartphones.

The app is an IPTV-focused mobile platform that integrates content discovery, information browsing, mobile viewing, TV-mobile continuity and remote control functions into a single interface. Users can explore U+tv content on mobile devices, watch directly, or continue viewing on their TV.

Within U+tv Mobile, users can access detailed information on movies, dramas and entertainment programs available on U+tv, including cast, release year, cumulative audience figures, trailers, original soundtracks, ratings and reviews. The company said the app also features curated sections such as magazines, rankings and review collections, along with filter-based search tools to improve content discovery.

The app also functions as a virtual remote control, allowing users to operate U+tv without a physical device. Users can search and browse content on their smartphones and instantly cast it to their TV. The app can also serve as a replacement if the physical remote is lost.

Meanwhile, LG Uplus said it plans to discontinue its existing “U+ Mobile TV” service at the end of May.

Jung Jin-yi, head of the Home/Media Product Tribe at LG Uplus, said the app connects content discovery, viewing and management into a single seamless flow, adding that the company will continue enhancing the service based on user context to differentiate the overall IPTV experience.
