New 5G+ service promises faster speeds in Cirencester

EE has rolled out 5G+ in Cheltenham and Cirencester as part of a nationwide project covering more than 610 towns and cities.

The new 5G+ network promises faster download and upload speeds, improved reliability and better performance in crowded locations such as high streets and train stations.

Greg McCall, chief security and networks officer at BT Group, said: "This milestone shows the pace at which we’re building the UK’s most advanced mobile network.

"By expanding EE’s 5G+ coverage to millions more people and being the first in the world to launch new network technologies, we’re giving our customers more reliable and resilient connectivity in the places where it matters most."

In the past six months, EE has reported a 54 per cent increase in monthly 5G+ usage.

The expansion forms part of BT Group’s £40 billion investment in UK network infrastructure over the decade.

EE has upgraded more than 4,000 mobile sites with reallocated 2.1GHz spectrum to increase capacity, improve indoor coverage and support higher upload speeds.

Plans are in place to upgrade an additional 5,000 sites in the coming months.

A key feature of the new network is EE’s rollout of Advanced RAN Coordination (ARC), a technology that allows nearby mobile sites to dynamically share capacity in real time.

ARC can boost network performance by 20 per cent without requiring additional masts.

EE was the first network in the world to deploy ARC, which has already been activated in Manchester, Edinburgh and London.

The technology will be extended to other major UK cities by the end of May.

Customers with 5G+ compatible devices and plans—on both iOS and Android—will experience the greatest benefits from the upgrade.

The 5G+ network is designed to meet growing demand for reliable mobile connectivity, especially in areas with heavy footfall and high data usage.
