Vodafone Oman targets full cloud-native migration by 2028 with Red Hat

Vodafone Oman is standardising its entire IT infrastructure on Red Hat’s cloud-native platform as part of a broader techco transformation, with a roadmap to transition the majority of production workloads to Red Hat OpenShift by 2028 — a significant infrastructure commitment for one of the GCC’s newest and fastest-growing operators.

Since launching in 2021, Vodafone Oman has surpassed one million subscribers on its 5G network. To sustain growth while maintaining its asset-light operating model, the operator has moved its primary production environment to Red Hat OpenShift on bare metal, with more than 60% of production workloads already running on the platform. The bare-metal architecture consolidates modern cloud-native applications and legacy virtual machines onto a single unified platform, reducing licensing overhead and infrastructure complexity.

The deployment leverages Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management, and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to strengthen automation, observability, and operational efficiency. Vodafone Oman is also planning to use Red Hat’s migration toolkit to accelerate the remaining VM migration in the coming months. Looking ahead, the operator is exploring Red Hat OpenShift AI to shift network and service management from reactive to proactive, data-driven operations.

Internal teams have been upskilled through Red Hat training and certifications, transitioning towards DevSecOps and automated workflows to support faster service delivery cycles.

Pramod Chinchunsure, Vodafone Oman’s Chief Technology and Information Officer, said the standardisation on Red Hat platforms creates a common foundation across the IT environment that reduces costs, improves agility, and accelerates delivery of digital services.
