Dialog Axiata has launched GanuDenu QR, a QR code-based person-to-person payment service available through the MyDialog App, enabling users to send and receive money directly between Dialog Finance and eZ Cash accounts without entering mobile numbers or account details. The service is described as the first of its kind in Sri Lanka to extend QR payments beyond merchant transactions to direct transfers between individuals.
Transfers of up to LKR 5,000 are free of charge, timed to coincide with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s simultaneous removal of transaction fees on all LankaQR payments below that threshold — a policy shift aimed at accelerating cashless adoption among small merchants and the rural economy. The Central Bank acknowledged at the launch that progress on the LankaQR system since its introduction in 2018 had been “insufficient” and set a target to scale monthly QR transactions from 90,000 to 1 million within six months.
GanuDenu QR is interoperable across the LankaPay network, enabling transactions with all Central Bank-accredited banks, non-bank financial institutions, and fintech platforms. Users making their first send transaction via the feature also receive 2GB of free data as an incentive. The launch was timed ahead of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year to encourage digital alternatives to traditional festive cash exchanges.
Dialog Group CEO Supun Weerasinghe acknowledged the Ministry of Digital Economy, the Central Bank, and LankaPay for their support in enabling the platform, including the fee waiver.
