Movistar Plus+ launches free ad-supported tier

Movistar Plus+ has launched a new free plan, opening part of its streaming catalogue to users without a paid subscription.

The new offer, available through the Movistar Plus+ app, allows viewers to access selected content at no charge once they create a user account.

The Spanish platform said the free tier includes a range of programming, series and other entertainment content, with users shown a clear distinction inside the app between titles available free of charge and those reserved for paying subscribers.

Among the content included are Movistar Plus+ original programmes, including titles such as Berto’s Advice Column, Illustrious Ignorants and Leo Talks. Established entertainment brands including La Resistencia and Late Motiv are also part of the offer.

Live sports rights are not included in the free plan, but Movistar Plus+ is making a selection of sports-related programming available. This includes shows such as El día después, Universo Valdano, Deporte Plus and Locos por el golf, along with previews of major events including Champions League coverage.

The operator is also making available a dedicated channel carrying preview programming and post-match shows, extending the reach of some of its sports shoulder content beyond the pay offering.

The move gives Movistar Plus+ a broader funnel for audience acquisition and engagement, while reflecting the wider industry shift towards ad-supported and hybrid streaming models.
