Nepal Telecom moves to phase out 3G Services

Nepal Telecom has begun the process of phasing out its 3G network as part of a broader effort to modernise its services and enhance network quality. The operator is urging customers still using 2G and 3G SIM cards to upgrade to 4G-compatible SIMs.

The company has started notifying affected users via messages and system alerts, encouraging them to visit nearby service centres to obtain a free 4G SIM replacement. Customers are required to present valid identification, such as a citizenship certificate, national ID card, passport, or driving licence, to complete the upgrade.

For users who already have 4G-enabled SIMs, Nepal Telecom has enabled easy activation of 4G and VoLTE services through a simple dial code.

The transition reflects a wider industry shift toward more efficient and high-speed networks, as operators reallocate spectrum from legacy technologies like 3G to support 4G and future 5G deployments.
