Openreach has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to use AI tools to help plan fiber broadband construction and manage emissions from its vehicle fleet.
Google’s data and analytics are being used to study routes, idling time, and fault patterns across its vehicle fleet.
The system is reducing unnecessary trips and fuel use, and that its shift toward EVs has cut about 10,000 tons of CO2-equivalent annually.
Google’s AI models are used to map 35 million homes and transport corridors to identify where full-fiber lines can be installed faster.
Openreach is investing £15 billion (US$ 20.09 billion) to extend fiber to 25 million premises by the end of 2026.
