German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland has integrated HBO Max as an app on Sky Stream and Sky Q in Germany and Austria, making Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming service directly accessible via its aggregation ecosystem.
Customers in both markets can access the HBO Max app either by logging in with an existing standalone subscription or by subscribing separately via the platform. The addition further strengthens Sky’s positioning as a central entertainment hub, where services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, RTL+ and Joyn are already integrated.
The deal maintains a dual distribution approach for Warner Bros. Discovery content. While HBO Max is now available as a direct-to-consumer app on Sky devices, selected HBO programming continues to be included within Sky subscriptions, alongside a range of linear pay-TV channels, expanding the long-standing partnership between Sky and Warner Bros. Discovery.
“Sky stands for premium entertainment in one place. With HBO Max, we are expanding our extensive app offering. Our customers gain direct access to the HBO Max app, can subscribe to it separately and at the same time continue to benefit from selected HBO content within the Sky subscription as well as selected linear pay-TV channels from Warner Bros. Discovery,” said Evelyn Rothblum, Chief Transformation Officer at Sky Deutschland.
“This integration underlines our strategy to offer customers maximum flexibility and choice while strengthening Sky’s role as a leading aggregator for premium content,” she added.
Beyond the app integration, Warner Bros. Discovery remains a key content partner within the Sky portfolio. Pay-TV channels including Warner TV Film, Warner TV Serie and Warner TV Comedy, as well as Cartoon Network and Cartoonito, continue to be distributed via Sky. Free-to-air channels such as DMAX, TLC, Tele 5, HGTV and Eurosport1 also remain part of the offering.
