In a landmark achievement for North Africa’s digital landscape, Ooredoo Algeria has officially become the first telecommunications operator to deploy fifth-generation (5G) mobile network coverage across all 58 provinces of the country. This nationwide rollout ensures that high-speed mobile connectivity and advanced digital services are now accessible to citizens from the Mediterranean coast to the deep Saharan regions.
The expansion is a core component of Ooredoo’s strategic vision to spearhead Algeria’s digital transformation. By providing the infrastructure for faster data speeds and lower latency, the operator is setting the stage for significant advancements in critical sectors, including remote healthcare, digital education, and industrial automation.
One of the most user-friendly aspects of this rollout is the accessibility for existing customers. Ooredoo confirmed that subscribers using current 4G USIM cards do not need to purchase new hardware; they can activate 5G services instantly through the My Ooredoo app, the company’s website, or any retail outlet.
This milestone follows the Algerian government’s late-2025 decision to grant 5G licenses to the nation’s three major providers: Mobilis, Djezzy, and Ooredoo. While all three are working toward modernization, Ooredoo’s rapid achievement of nationwide status places it at the forefront of the country’s mobile-driven internet economy, where tens of millions of users rely on mobile data as their primary gateway to the digital world.
