1,500 5G base stations deployed in Cambodia’s 5G race so far

Cambodia’s three mobile operators have collectively deployed close to 1,500 5G base stations so far since launching 5G services earlier this year, according to the country’s Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.

According to a release issued by the ministry on Friday, Smart Axiata is leading the deployment charge with 674 5G base stations in Phnom Penh and several provincial capitals, including Kratie, Kandal, Kep, Kampot, Kampong Cham, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom, Kampong Speu, Koh Kong, Takeo, Tboung Khmum, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Prey Veng, Preah Sihanouk, Mondulkiri, Svay Rieng and Siem Reap.

Viettel-owned Metfone has deployed 531 5G base stations in key target areas in Phnom Penh, Kratie, Kandal, Kampot, Kampong Cham, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom, Kampong Speu, Koh Kong, Takeo, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Prey Veng, Pursat, Preah Sihanouk, Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Svay Rieng, Stung Treng, Siem Reap, Oddar Meanchey, Kep, Tboung Khmum, Preah Vihear, and Pailin.

Meanwhile, CamGSM (a.k.a. Cellcard) has launched 289 5G base stations in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province.

Smart Axiata, Metfone and Cellcard launched 5G services at the start of this year. The ministry said all three telcos are actively accelerating their 5G rollouts for both mobile and fixed wireless access services, as well as expanding 4G coverage.
