5G boost drives Morocco’s biggest leap in mobile connectivity ranking

Morocco recorded one of its strongest improvements in global connectivity performance in 2025, climbing 22 positions on the Ookla Speedtest Global Index following the launch of commercial 5G services late last year. The rollout increased the proportion of high-speed tests across networks, lifting median download speeds and helping Morocco reclaim its position as North Africa’s leading country in mobile connectivity, ranking 39th globally ahead of Algeria and Tunisia.

The country also made progress in fixed broadband performance, rising 11 places to 105th worldwide, supported by ongoing fibre deployment and infrastructure upgrades. Median fixed broadband download speeds reached 56.27 Mbps in the fourth quarter of 2025, reflecting continued investment in faster access technologies.

Although analysts expect rankings to stabilise as 5G adoption matures and testing patterns normalise in 2026, Morocco remains among the region’s strongest performers as North African markets transition from 4G to 5G in mobile networks and from DSL to fibre-based broadband infrastructure.
