Telenor Pakistan has completed migration of its entire customer base of 90 million subscribers to a next-generation charging and billing system, which the company describes as the world’s largest single-phase migration of prepaid and postpaid customers to a new platform.

Technical Infrastructure

The newly deployed Charging and Billing System (CBS) operates on private cloud architecture designed to provide enhanced service resilience, geographic redundancy, and high scalability, according to company statements.

The platform includes more than 100 application programming interfaces (APIs) intended to enable development of digital services and integration with external systems. Telenor Pakistan stated the infrastructure supports faster service deployment and positions the network for future 5G capabilities.

However, the company did not disclose specific technical specifications, vendor breakdown beyond Huawei’s involvement, total investment costs, or detailed timeline for the migration project.

Executive Perspectives

Awais Vohra, Chief Executive Officer of Telenor Pakistan, characterized the migration as fundamental to the company’s digital transformation strategy.

“The successful migration of our next-generation CBS is a pivotal step in Telenor Pakistan’s digital transformation,” Vohra stated. “By strengthening our core systems, we are building a scalable and resilient foundation which enables host of new digital services, faster response to customer needs and paves the way for 5G readiness. This upgrade reflects our commitment to innovation and long-term technological development in Pakistan.”

Ethan Sun, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Pakistan, emphasized the partnership’s evolution and future orientation.

“Our long-standing partnership with Telenor Pakistan continues to evolve as we jointly enable next-generation digital capabilities,” Sun said. “Huawei is proud to support Telenor Pakistan with a future-ready CBS platform that enhances operational efficiency today while laying the groundwork for 5G and beyond.”

Migration Scope and Collaboration

The migration involved cross-functional teams from Telenor Pakistan, Huawei, original equipment manufacturers, and various suppliers working across technology and business functions to execute the platform transition.

Telenor Pakistan emphasized that the cutover was completed without service interruptions to its 90 million customer base, which includes both prepaid and postpaid subscribers. The company described this as a “one-go migration,” distinguishing it from phased approaches that transition customer segments incrementally.
