China’s Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable (YOFC) revealed that it has completed and launched a national broadband network project for Peru commissioned by the government six years ago.
As a key component of Peru's digital infrastructure upgrade, the network spans four regions, connecting over 1,600 towns and more than one million people. YOFC said it deployed more than 9,000 km of fibre optic cable and constructed over 1,500 sites for the project.
The network – which was officially launched in Peru's Ancash region on January 20 – also provides internet access to more than 4,000 public institutions, including schools, hospitals, police stations, and central plazas.
YOFC added that in addition to making high-quality digital services available to local communities and reducing regional disparities in broadband access, the project also created substantial employment opportunities during construction, generating more than 5,000 jobs.
YOFC also said the project supported growth of related local industries by fostering knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and collaboration with local partners.
